Congratulations to Soon-Mi Shim
Dear faculty and colleagues: Please join me in congratulating Soon-Mi Shim on her 2nd place finish in the Institute of Food Technologists, Toxicology and Safety Evaluation Division's Graduate Paper Competition. Soon-Mi's research demonstrated that a pregnant or nursing woman that follows the label on a fish oil supplement may increase the risk to her unborn child or nursing infant due to exposure to PCBs. She also showed that some societal recommendations encourage the use of fish oil supplements since it is difficult to obtain the recommended intakes of EPA and DHA exclusively through consumption of fish. Her poster will soon be displayed on the ground floor in Stone Hall. The title and list of authors are as follows:
